The Thornburg Foundation, the family foundation founded by Thornburg Investment Management Founder and Chairman Garrett Thornburg, announced $240,000 in grants to support non-profit organizations serving the homeless, the hungry, children, and families in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico who are impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
SANTA FE, NM — March 24, 2020 — Thornburg Foundation, a Santa Fe, New Mexico- based family foundation, today announced $240,000 in grants to support non-profit organizations serving the homeless, the hungry, children, and families in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico who are impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The Foundation accelerated annual grants to these critical organizations, and then doubled each grant with a one-time operational increase in alignment with the Santa Fe Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund.
“This unprecedented crisis has put local shelters, food depots, medical centers, and social service organizations on the front lines of the coronavirus fight,” said Thornburg Foundation Executive Director Allan Oliver. “These organizations urgently need vital funding and support to meet the immediate needs of fellow New Mexicans, especially children, seniors, and vulnerable populations.”
“We are grateful for the creation of the Santa Fe Community Foundation’s relief fund. Together, we will continue to work on additional ways to make a difference and know that as a community, we will get through this challenging time,” Mr. Oliver continued.
The Santa Fe Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund supports the many nonprofit organizations in Santa Fe that ensure children and seniors receive daily meals no longer provided in schools or senior centers, as well as funding for emergency health services, childcare, rent, and utilities.
“The Santa Fe Community Foundation’s launch of the COVID-19 Response Fund is quickly turning donations into action,” said William (Bill) Smith, President and CEO of Santa Fe Community Foundation. “Coordinating our funding responses in partnership with Thornburg Foundation means we can efficiently direct more funds to the non-profits that need help today.”
