Josh Vail

Head of Private Wealth and Data Intelligence and Managing Director

Josh Vail is head of private wealth and data intelligence at Thornburg Investment Management, where he leads private wealth distribution strategy and the integration of data and analytics across sales, marketing, and client engagement. He brings extensive experience across traditional active management and alternative investments, with a career focused on scaling investment platforms in the private wealth channel.

Previously, Josh was co-head of U.S. private wealth solutions at Hamilton Lane, where he helped grow the firm’s evergreen private markets platform leading national sales, wirehouse expansion, and product growth. Before Hamilton Lane, Josh spent over a decade at 361 Capital, where he ultimately served as president. He played a central role in transforming the firm from a traditional manager into a data-enabled, multi-product investment platform, driving organic growth and acquisitions. These efforts culminated in the firm’s acquisition by Hamilton Lane for its differentiated distribution capabilities.

Josh is known for combining investment expertise with data-driven distribution models that enhance sales efficiency, product adoption, and long-term client relationships. He holds a BS in finance from Colorado State University and is a CAIA charterholder.
