Andrew Xu
Chief Risk Officer and Managing Director
Andrew Xu is the chief risk officer for Thornburg Investment Management. He is responsible for designing and overseeing Thornburg’s risk framework, ensuring robust risk governance, independent oversight, and disciplined risk-taking aligned with client objectives and regulatory compliance. Partnering closely with senior leadership, investment and all cross-functional teams, and the Board, Andrew helps drive a culture of transparency, resilience, and continuous improvement while advancing analytics, systems, and controls that support the firm’s multi-asset investment platform.
Prior to Thornburg, Andrew held leadership roles at TCW Group, Capital Group, Fidelity Investments, and Millennium Management. With over 20 years of experience in risk management and investment technology, Andrew has built patented multi-asset-class risk management platforms and transformed investment infrastructure for multi-trillion-dollar investment managers. He holds a BA in computer science from New York University and an MS in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT. He serves on the board of LA Opera and is a member of the MIT Educational Council.
