Garrett Thornburg is a recognized leader in innovative, actively managed, disciplined investment strategies and is chairman of Thornburg Investment Management, Inc., which he founded in 1982. Headquartered in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Thornburg Investment Management is an employee-owned investment firm that manages eight equity mutual funds, one alternative mutual fund, and 11 fixed-income funds for individual and institutional clients.
Before forming Thornburg Investment Management, Mr. Thornburg was a limited partner of Bear, Stearns & Co. and a founding member of that firm’s public finance department. He was also chief financial officer of New York State’s Urban Development Corporation, and served as financial advisor to the State of New Mexico’s Board of Finance.
He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Investment Company Institute and serves on the Board of Directors of the New Mexico School for the Arts – Art Institute. He is also chairman of the Thornburg Foundation and personally leads the company’s philanthropic efforts. Active in New Mexico philanthropy, in 2010 he received the Philanthropist of the Year award from the Journal Santa Fe, and in 2013 he was awarded the New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a former board member of the National Dance Institute of New Mexico, the Santa Fe Institute, and the Santa Fe Community Foundation. Mr. Thornburg received his BA from Williams College and his MBA from Harvard University.
President and CEO
Jason Brady is president and CEO of Thornburg Investment Management. He is responsible for the company’s overall strategy and direction. He is also portfolio manager on multiple strategies. He joined the firm in 2006, was made portfolio manager and managing director in 2007, and president and CEO in 2016. His book Income Investing: An Intelligent Approach to Profiting from Bonds, Stocks and Money Markets is a step-by-step guide to income investing.
Jason holds a BA with honors in English and environmental biology from Dartmouth College, and an MBA with concentrations in analytical finance and accounting from Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He is a CFA charterholder. Prior to joining Thornburg, Jason was a portfolio manager with Fortis Investments in Boston, and has held various positions at Fidelity Investments and Lehman Brothers.
Vice Chairman and Chief Investment Strategist
Brian McMahon is chief investment strategist for Thornburg Investment Management. Brian is deeply respected for his market and investment insight and serves as a key voice for the investment team and Thornburg clients. He also co-manages Thornburg’s global equity portfolios and serves as vice chairman of Thornburg.
Brian joined Thornburg in 1984 as chief investment officer; a role he held until 2019. Brian served as president of the firm from 1997 to 2015 and CEO from 2008 to 2015 and was promoted to vice chairman in 2016. He managed Thornburg’s laddered bond portfolios from their inceptions from 1984 until 2000 and remains actively involved in securities analysis for various Thornburg portfolios.
Brian holds an MBA from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a BA in economics and Russian studies from the University of Virginia. After receiving his MBA, Brian joined Norwest Bank in 1979, and held various corporate finance positions.
Co-Head of Investments and Managing Director
Ben Kirby is co-head of investments for Thornburg Investment Management. He is responsible for driving the investment process at the firm level. Ben is also a portfolio manager on multiple strategies. He joined Thornburg in 2008 as equity research analyst, was promoted to associate portfolio manager in 2011, and was named portfolio manager and managing director in 2013.
Ben holds a BA in computer science from Fort Lewis College and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Prior to graduate school, Ben was a software engineer at Pinnacle Business Systems in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is a CFA charterholder.

Jeff Klingelhofer is co-head of investments for Thornburg Investment Management. He is responsible for driving the investment process at the firm level. Jeff is also a portfolio manager on multiple strategies. He joined the firm in 2010, then was promoted to associate portfolio manager in 2012. In 2015, Jeff was made portfolio manager and managing director.
Jeff earned a BA in economics with a minor in business from the University of California at Irvine, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2010. He is also a CFA charterholder. Prior to joining Thornburg Investment Management, Jeff spent four years with PIMCO, where he was responsible for monitoring portfolio leverage and risk tolerances.

Nimish Bhatt is chief financial officer of Thornburg Investment Management, responsible for corporate finance, tax, fund accounting, and fund administration. He has over 30 years of progressive experience in strategy, leveraged finance, equity issuance, mergers and acquisitions, operations, technology, accounting, administration, and tax-related matters in the global investment management industry.
Before joining Thornburg, Nimish served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Calamos Asset Management, Inc. During his tenure at Calamos, he was also responsible for fund administration, operations, and information technology. Previously, he served in various capacities for The BISYS Group, Inc., Evergreen Asset Management Corp., PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Ernst & Young LLP, and KPMG.
He serves as a member of board of directors of Thornburg Global Investment plc (Ireland), New Mexico Museum of Natural History Foundation, Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, Goldvest Financial Services Pvt. Ltd. (India), and Share My Fortune, Inc. He was a member of the board of directors of Calamos Global Funds plc (Ireland), Illinois Chamber of Commerce, and Indian Prairie Education Foundation. He also served as chairman of the board of directors of NICSA and is a member of the Investment Company Institute’s Accounting/Treasurers committee. Nimish has a bachelor’s degree with a major in advanced accounting and auditing and a post-graduate law degree from India’s Gujarat University. He also has a master of business administration from Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business and is a graduate of Advanced Management Program from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently registered with FINRA with a Series 27 and 99.
Head of Strategic Development and Managing Director
Erin is head of strategic development for Thornburg Investment Management, leading corporate and product development initiatives across the firm. She has extensive investment and management experience, including with large and small asset management firms and most recently the financial technology industry.
Prior to joining Thornburg, Erin was chief investment officer for C2FO, a Kansas City–based financial technology company focusing on supply-chain finance solutions. She developed private investment solutions to provide working capital liquidity to small businesses, utilizing C2FO’s proprietary technology platform. Prior to C2FO, Erin spent 11 years with Fountain Capital Management, a boutique high-yield investment firm also based in Kansas City. At Fountain, Erin held various positions, including partner, portfolio manager, head trader, and research analyst. She started her career at Strong Capital Management as an equity research analyst, focusing on small- and mid-cap value portfolios and later as a private equity analyst for McCarthy Capital.
Erin is a graduate of Indiana University with a BS in finance and is a CFA charterholder.
Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director
Randy Dry is chief operating officer for Thornburg Investment Management, Inc. He joined Thornburg in 2001 as an associate portfolio manager, was promoted to director of separate accounts in 2002, director of the institutional group in 2014, chief administrative officer in 2016, and chief operating officer in 2020. As chief operating officer, Randy is responsible for oversight of the firm’s investment operations, technology, data-management and administrative functions.
Randy started his financial career in 1997 at Davis Advisors in Santa Fe, where he helped Davis develop and launch its managed accounts business. He earned a BBA in finance from the University of New Mexico’s Anderson School of Management. Randy is currently registered with FINRA with a Series, 7, 24, 63, 65, and 99.
Chief Marketing Officer and Managing Director
John Hackett, CFA, is chief marketing officer of Thornburg Investment Management and joined the firm in 2020. John spearheads and develops marketing strategy, continues to evolve and effectively position the Thornburg brand and investment messaging, and leads a high-performing marketing team in executing our strategy and tactics to drive new investor and AUM growth globally.
John’s experiences are multi-channel, driving growth through institutional, intermediary and global distribution, and spans both traditional and alternative asset classes. Prior to joining Thornburg, John held leadership roles in marketing, along with product and business development, at global asset management firms. Most recently, John was the global head of product marketing at Northern Trust Asset Management in Chicago. Before joining Northern Trust, he was a principal and head of marketing and business development at The Townsend Group, an Aon Company, and a senior vice president, head of marketing and product management at Calamos Investments. John has also held senior marketing product management roles at Nuveen Investments. Prior to joining the financial services industry, John spent over a decade in the technology and consulting sectors.
John earned an MBA in finance and policy studies from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BS in mathematics and a BS in industrial management from Purdue University. He is also a CFA® charterholder and member of CFA Institute and CFA Society of Chicago. John is registered with FINRA with a Series 7, 24 and 63.
Human Resources Director and Managing Director
Dana Jones is human resources director of Thornburg Investment Management. She joined Thornburg in 2008 as an HR generalist and was promoted to senior HR generalist in 2017, HR manager in 2018, and HR director and managing director in 2019.
As HR director, Dana is in charge of shaping the human resource strategy to support the business plan and strategic direction of the organization. Specifically, she oversees areas of recruitment, engagement, succession planning, talent management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, and compensation.
Prior to Thornburg, Dana worked as a recruitment specialist for Frankel Staffing Partners and a training specialist at Los Alamos National Laboratory. She earned an MBA at Texas A&M University and a BBA in human resources management from New Mexico State University.
Head of Global Distribution and Managing Director
William Mac “Carter” Sims is head of global distribution for Thornburg Investment Management. He is responsible for leading the sales and distribution efforts across the company’s institutional, intermediary, and international lines of business.
Prior to joining Thornburg, Carter was the head of U.S. intermediary distribution at Schroder Investment Management, North America, where he lead the business strategy for all functional teams including sales, key accounts, and marketing. Additionally, Carter oversaw all marketing and communications across the intermediary, institutional, and consultant relations channels.
Over Carter’s extensive career, he has also held senior leadership positions at several firms including, Columbia Asset Management, Bank of America, Gartmore Global Partners, Fidelity Investments, and PNC Bank.
Carter received a BS in finance from Boston College and holds the FINRA Series 24, 26, 7, 6, and 63 registrations. He also completed the Securities Industry Institute Leadership program at Penn’s Wharton School. Additional training includes SPIN Selling, Conceptual Selling, and IMPACT Performance Leadership and Negotiation.
Chief of Staff
Jeanene Bettner is chief of staff for Thornburg Investment Management, Inc. She joined Thornburg in 2014 as the director of CRM and in 2017 helped launch an initiative to create a sales and marketing data analytics team to support the essential need to become a data-driven firm. Continuing the theme of driving and managing change across the organization, Jeanene became the director of Thornburg’s project management office in 2019, building a team of business analysts and project managers to support the foundational shift away from on-premise software applications to include outsourced and cloud-based infrastructure solutions to support middle- and back-office operations. In 2021, Jeanene was named chief of staff in support of Thornburg’s CEO, Jason Brady. In this role, Jeanene continues to be responsible for initiating and driving technology and data solutions deeper into the organization, along with program management for new product releases and helping to manage and prioritize the resources related to strategic initiatives across the company.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business, Jeanene started her technology-based sales career in 1982 with IBM in Indianapolis, Indiana, working with financial services firms. Over the years as the technology industry shifted to software applications, Jeanene worked for various software technology startups as well as large software entities such as SAP. She shifted to sales operations and project management in 2010 and worked for Early Warning Services (banking consortium that founded Zelle) in Scottsdale, Arizona, prior to joining Thornburg.
